Modeling a table lamp - Tutorial for beginners

In this tutorial, we will model and set-up light for making a Table Lamp in Maya. I assume that you are already familiar with the basic modeling techniques and interface of Autodesk Maya.
 
Step 1
Create a Poly Cylinder in the middle of view. Press ‘5’ to see the objects in shaded mode. Also press ‘f’ to focus (zoom in) on the selected poly cylinder.

Step 2
Go to Inputs of the polyCylider1 and set the Subdivisions Axis = 8. Scale down the height of the cylinder and also scale up its radius. You can do it manually by Scale tool as me or you can edit those parameters (Height and Radius). Maya will not mind it.

Step 3
Enter into Edge sub-object level. Delete four edges so that we get four equal faces like below.
