Here’s a really simple but fun text effect anyone can do. I have tried to capture and explain every step of the way to ensure even complete
beginners at Photoshop will be able to finish it without any problems at all. Here’s the end result: |
| |
|
| |
Step 1 |
Let’s start at the beginning. Hold down CRTL and hit ‘N’ to open a new document. This screen pops up and we can edit some things here. I have
made the canvas pretty big as you can see (2000x1000). We can always scale it down when we are finished, but starting with a small canvas and scaling up is asking for trouble. Change
the resolution to 72 dpi, if you are going for a web output, or 300 for print. I have also made the background white. It doesn’t really matter at this stage, but we can see what we are
doing better with a background than without one. |

Step 2 |
So we now have our empty canvas on the screen. Hit ‘T’ on the keyboard to access the text tool, and drag from the top left corner down to about
the centre bottom. Type the first letter. There are two main things to take into consideration at this point. First is the font. With the text tool still activated, click at point ‘A’. Don’t click
the arrow or you will get a drop down menu appear of all your available fonts. Instead, click on the font name in order for it to be highlighted blue. Then you can simply use the keyboard
up and down arrow keys to scroll through the fonts. Note though, that you must have the text selected in order to see the fonts change in the canvas. Next is the size of the text. If it
is too small you will have a hard time seeing anything, and if it is too large you won’t see anything at all. Make sure you can see the flashing text cursor before you type the text.
