Creating Shaft In CATIA - Tutorial For Beginners

This short step by step tutorial in CATIA illustrates how to create a shaft, that is a revolved feature, by using an open profile. Follow the steps shown below.
 
Step One
Create a sketch as shown in Figure 1.

Step Two
Exit sketcher workbench and select "Shaft tool from toolbar or from "Insert > Sketcher Based Feature > Shaft menu as shown in figure 2 and 3 respectively.

Step Three
When "Shaft Definition" dialog box pops up set the parameters as shown in figure 4. {Main thing is selecting the Axis around which sketch will be revolved.}

Step Four
Click preview button to see the revolved feature created with the values that we have entered in "Shaft Definition" dialog box, if satisfied with the result click OK button and the model after creating revolved feature using shaft tool would be as shown in figure 5.

Step Five
Now let us make few changes in "Shaft Definition" dialog box and see what happens. I have selected Axis as HDirection and the resultant part will be as shown in figure 6.

Step Six
When you set First Angle in "Shaft Definition" dialogue box to 270 deg the part would be as shown in figure 7.
