Hi and welcome back, I am sorry as I was busy with some other work I could not continue posting the next part of tutorial since a long time. Now I am free for some time and I hope I would be able to complete the remaining parts of tutorial in the meanwhile. I hope that you have already learnt how to model head, hand, foot and ear which I have already published in my earlier tutorials. Now let us go the next part of the tutorial series by learning how to create “Torso”.

Step One
Now let’s start working. Startup 3ds Max, go to the left view port and change it right view and then go to the top menu “View > Viewport Background” and click on it or just hit Alt+B. Once “Viewport Background” window pops up, select “Match Bitmap” under “Aspect Ratio” and to the right check both “Display Background” and “Lock Zoom/Pan” so that when you zoom and pan in view, the image will zoom and pan with the view. Now click on “Files” and load the reference image for torso {I have got the reference image from The-Blueprints.com and if find any other better image you can use the same, and here is the link from where you can download the reference image: male.jpg}. The image is now mapped onto the background. If the file shows up but nothing happens onscreen, then hold down the Alt+Shift+Ctrl buttons and hit B to update the background image.

Step Two
Now let us do the same in front viewport also. Same as we did for the right viewport as shown below.

Step Three
Now let us hit “G” to toggle the construction grid off for clarity, then zoom in by hitting zoom icon to make it active. Move your mouse up and down to zoom in zoom out respectively. Zoom out slightly that the image centered in view. {You can use “Z” to activate the zoom mode, and right-click to deactivate zoom mode}.
