Welcome to CG Online Tutorials -
In this tutorial let us learn how to create a human face using a reference image in 3ds max. |

Step 5 |
Now let us place the side reference image plane back. Then let us select both the reference image planes and right on the viewport then go to object
properties. Uncheck the Show frozen in grey as shown in the below image and then check the Freeze option by right clicking after selecting the planes. By
selecting this option you would not be able to select the plane accidentally while selecting other near by objects and hence you would not be able to move,
rotate or scale these reference planes anymore and you’ll be able and you can also see these image on these planes at the same time.

Step 6 |
As we have set up the reference image we can now go ahead with modeling the. Let us use a plane and convert it to ‘EDIT POLY’ by going to modifier list. If
you are not able to see the plane in the side do not, It’s just because segments are just parallel to each other and to make it viewable press F4 in your
keyboard this will turn on the wireframe option. So you’ll be able to view it correctly in side viewport as well.

Now let us select the edge from the front view and shift drag to ‘EXTRUDE’ the edge. Make sure to match it from the right viewport as well, the
resultant plane after extruding would be as shown in the below image. Go with the flow. As you can find flow chart on many web sites.
