Hello and welcome, as we have already learned how to model Foot, Hand, Head, Ear and Torso on this tutorial series on “Human Character Modeling” Let’s go further and start with modeling eye, teeth and tongue in this part of tutorial. There are couple of ways that you can model an eye, either model the entire eye with lens and to do the same it would be very lengthy procedure. In this tutorial we are going to learn modeling and texturing an eye in an easy way, as I have already prepared an eye texturing using Adobe Photoshop and you can download the same in the following link: eye-texture.

Step One
First let us create a “Sphere” by going to “Create Menu > Standard Primitive > Sphere” and you can also create “Sphere” by going to “Create Panel > Geometry Button > Standard Primitive > Object Type rollout > Sphere button” as shown below. (However, you can model the eye in the file where you already modeled face but it is easy to start with a new file for better controlling of the issues and we can always merge different parts of body in a single file whenever needed.)

Step Two
Once the “Sphere” (which is basic shape of the eye and we shall tweak with and create a realist looking eye at the end of this tutorial) is created let us add some reflective materials to the eye. So, go to “Material Editor” by going to “Main toolbar > Material Editor” (A Material Editor is used to design materials and maps to control the appearance of the object surfaces. Maps can also be used to control the appearance of environmental effects such as lighting, fog, and the background) and get a “Raytrace Material” to do that you have to first select a sample slot which you have used and then you have to click on “Get Material” button on the “Material Editor” window and when the “Material Map Browser” pops up go through the list of materials and double click on “Raytrace” as shown below.

Step Three
Once the “Raytrace” material is selected let make few changes in the “Raytrace Basic Parameters” rollout by increasing “Specular Level” (Effects the intensity of the specular highlight. As you increase the value, the highlight grows brighter) and “Glossiness” (Affects the size of the specular highlight. As you increase the value, the highlight gets smaller and the material appears shinier) so that eye ball looks realistic as shown below.
