Hello and welcome back to this tutorial series on Male Character Modeling, in the last tutorial we learned how to attach different body parts like
head, palm, foot and torso together and create a complete male character. Now let us go further and add some cloth to the character as he is standing naked,
shame, let us hurry up and put some cloth to this guy.
|
| |
Step One |
Now that we have completed attaching geometry, it is time now to add some cloths to the character we have created. First lets start with adding pant.
Heres the male character that we created here is where we left it after attaching head, hand, foot and torso together. Now let us start by creating a
Cylinder by going to Create Menu and then choose Standard Primitives > Cylinder (The Cylinder button highlights on the
Create Panel). Let us set the value of Height Segments and Cap Segments to 1 and Sides to 6 as shown
below.

Step Two |
Now let us convert the Cylinder into Editable Poly and then let us select the edges and add one more segment right in the middle and
delete half of the cylinders left part as shown below.

Step Three |
Now by using Move tool let us place the cylinder right in the middle as shown below. Please note that there are many ways of modeling clothing: by
creating the cloth objects with standard 3ds Max modeling methods and applying the cloth modifier to them, or by designing virtual clothing patterns with
splines and stitching together these various virtual panel to form a full garment using Garment Maker modifier. With Garment Maker we can
even import splines patterns from external applications and use the same as our pattern panels. In this tutorial we are going to use another which is quite
easy and fast to do. We shall use standard 3ds Max modeling methods and then let us apply Paint Deformation to the same and get clothing effect.
So, let us get going and place the half cylinder right in the middle so that it will be easier for us when we apply Symmetry to it in the later
part of the tutorial as shown below.
