Architectural Multistorey Building Tutorial – Part one – Ground Floor  

Hi, let me introduce myself first, my name is Ahmed living in Egypt. I am an architect specialized in 3D architectural renderings, 3D visualization, and CAD drawings. As I have a decent knowledge of Architectural visualization and rendering I would like to share the same with CGOnlineTutorials.com viewers. In this tutorial I am going to show you how to create a four storey residential building. As it involves a lot of explaining and needs more steps, I have divided this tutorial into several parts so that it would be easy for you to recreate the same. This is the first part of the tutorial and we shall start to create the building from scratch and the finally result would be something near to the one shown below. Follow below steps to know more, so let’s start.

I normally prefer to draw the building on the drawing board with hand and the scan it and then import it into 3ds Max as background which can be used as the reference image or a guide to help you to create the drawing. For this tutorial I am going to use a different method, as I have already prepared a 2D plan in AutoCAD for one of my client which I am going to use as a reference image instead draw fresh one now. I am going to import the AutoCAD 2D plan into 3ds Max and then create the elevation using the plan created in AutoCAD as the reference image. Below image shows you the plan that I created using AutoCAD application.

There are many websites in the web world which allows you to download AutoCad files for free, just Google for “Free AutoCAD house plan files” and you will find plenty of websites where you can download AutoCAD files for free. For this tutorial I am using an AutoCAD file which I created for one my client. First let us import the AutoCAD elevation file to 3ds Max, this can be done by either dragging and dropping it inside 3d max window or you can go to “File Menu > Import > AutoCAD Drawing (*.DWG, *.DXF)” to import the AutoCAD file to 3ds max program.
